Albert & Debbie Taño Medical Simulation Center

The Albert and Debbie Taño Medical Simulation Center is a multidisciplinary education and research facility at FIU Medicine dedicated to advancing clinical training. The center delivers high‑quality, simulation‑based learning experiences that help health care learners build clinical competence, confidence, and teamwork skills in a safe and collaborative environment.

Through hands‑on training, deliberate practice, and evidence‑based simulation, the center supports medical education, research, and continuing professional development. Committed to innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration, we partner with faculty and community affiliates to promote clinical excellence and improve patient care.

Our state-of-the-art Simulation Center features twenty Clinical Skills and assessment rooms including two high-fidelity, multi-purpose simulation suites. It also houses two large procedural skills suites for demonstrations, simulation activities and didactic instruction. All Clinical Skills and assessment rooms, including the two high-fidelity, multi-purpose simulation suites, are equipped with pan-tilt-zoom cameras, a paging system and recording capabilities.

  • Standardized Patient program

Our Standardized Patient (SP) program is a large component of the Medical Education curriculum that we provide to our students. SPs are “patient actors” who portray a patient’s story and personal affect; they are trained to simulate the signs and symptoms that a patient may display during a routine or specialized visit to their physician. SPs help our students connect what they learn in the classroom to real life situations that they will face in residency and beyond.

SPs are key to the successful training and assessment of our students. With the help of our outstanding SPs, we are able to provide quality educational experiences to our students.

How to apply to become an SP

The position is open seasonally and during peak times in our Simulation Center. Please visit HR Careers page to apply. If you do not see the position listed and would still like to apply, please contact our Standardized Patient Educator, Adriana Bautista at adbautis@fiu.edu for more information.
