The Department of Emergency Medicine and Critical Care was founded in 2014 within the organizational structure of the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University. As the Founding Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine and Critical Care, I’d like to welcome you to our program. All of our fourth-year students rotate in Emergency Medicine during which time their outstanding clinical experience is complemented by didactic and simulation sessions to ensure that the student is ready for residency. Through our clinical affiliates, medical students have the opportunity to care for a huge population of patients representing the depth and breadth of medicine. Clinical preceptors are voluntary faculty dedicated to providing our medical students with bedside teaching. We train tomorrow’s outstanding physicians and leaders by providing them with guidance, opportunities and mentorship. This extends through program development with our partner institutions. As the academic sponsor, FIU Department of Emergency and Critical Care, helped develop Emergency Medicine residency training programs at two of our affiliate hospitals with additional programs planned. As part of HWCOM, we are dedicated not just to patient care, education, and research but also to the improvement of population health in our community.
Welcome to the Department of Emergency Medicine and Critical Care.
