Welcome to Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine Office of Graduate Medical Education.
Working within the Office of Clinical Affairs, we strive to improve access to graduate medical education in South Florida. To address the increasing shortage of physicians, it is our mission to create and support the development of new residency programs and socially-aware physicians to serve and enrich our community.
Working with our affiliates, our inaugural programs in Family Medicine at West Kendall Baptist Hospital and Psychiatry at Citrus Health Clinics are already helping improve community health. These programs serve a diverse group of patients including the homeless and underserved. In our second phase of program development, we assisted and/or supported the development of programs in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, etc. Our efforts in Miami are mirrored in the success we have helping develop world-class programs in Broward as well, working with Broward Health and Memorial Health Systems.
HWCOM's Office of GME has helped spark a renaissance of graduate medical education in South Florida helping retain the students we train, as well as attract the brightest and best students from around the country to our region. We look forward to providing future physicians the opportunity to develop the skills and competencies to practice medicine in a patient-centered environment and to become leaders, enhancing health care excellence in our community.
