The Division of Internal Medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases.
Internal medicine physicians apply scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the diagnosis, treatment, and compassionate care of adults across a spectrum of disease states. They are specially trained to solve puzzling diagnostic problems, chronic illnesses, and situations where several different illnesses may strike simultaneously. They also bring to patients an understanding of wellness, women’s health, substance abuse, mental health, and effective treatment of common problems.
Internists are trained to see patients in an outpatient office setting as well as in an inpatient/critical care setting. Some internists choose to subspecialize in more focused fields of Internal Medicine, such as Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Pulmonary Medicine, and Rheumatology.
Our Mission
The Division of Internal Medicine is committed to excellence in medical education, scholarly research, and the provision of humanistic clinical care. Our mission is to promote compassionate and empathic evidence-based health care and medical student education, with attention to inclusion and diversity, innovation, professionalism and safety. Our faculty members include dedicated and dynamic clinical educators and scholars as well as specialists highly recognized in their respective fields who are passionate about translational medicine and the South Florida community.
