Research
From unlocking the mysteries of the human genome, to exploring the social determinants of health, research at FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine covers the full array of basic, applied, translational, clinical and interdisciplinary research. South Florida’s diverse population provides opportunities to not only advance the health of our communities, but to also address global health needs. Some of our ground breaking research includes: using nanoparticles for the targeted treatment of cancer and neuro-AIDS; studying mechanisms by which the Zika virus breaches the blood brain barrier; exploring the psychosocial treatment of ADHD; and assessing the value of household-centered care through health policy research.
Prior to their graduation, medical students must complete a research requirement under the guidance of the Department of Medical and Population Health Sciences Research. Students are also encouraged to pursue voluntary research in their specialty of interest.
