Thank you for your interest in the College of Medicine. We have a few ways in which you can be involved in the COM: Mentoring, Interviewing for Admissions, Research, and Teaching.
We are constantly growing at the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine – our needs for quality educators are always changing and growing as well. We are always interested in hearing about new faculty wishing to work with our students. There’s a lot of flexibility, in time commitment and geography, available! Our first year students are in clinic 5 half days from October to March. Our third years rotate through family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery and our fourth year students have emergency medicine, geriatrics, subinternships and varied electives. Additionally, our students geographically span South Florida from the Upper Keys to Palm Beach. We have many options for our students to work with you in the clinical setting!
- Interviewing for Admissions
Ms. Cristina Arabatzis, the Director of Admissions can be reached at email@example.com
There are several options for clinical faculty to work with Admissions: the Pre-Screening Committee and the Interview Panel.
One way that you can be involved is to be a specialty-specific mentor, meaning that if a student wants to go into your field, their Academic Advisor might refer that student to speak to you. Dr. Rebecca Toonkel can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org and is our Assistant Dean for Academic Advising, in case you are interested in this option so that you can ask for more information.
Professional Mentoring Program
We also pair medical students with community physicians in the Professional Mentoring Program in order to establish mentoring relationships that foster academic, career, and professional growth. If interested, email Ms. Scarlett Aldana-Bosch at email@example.com
Student Interest Groups
Our students also work collaboratively with clinical faculty through their interest groups on specialty panels, workshops and various engagement opportunities. Ms. Scarlett Aldana-Bosch can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org and can connect you with the appropriate student interest group.
Medical students at FIU complete a mandatory research project before graduation. Clinical faculty who might want to be involved in projects, either by proposing a research question or providing content expertise, can contact Dr. Juan M. Lozano at email@example.com
