Clinical & Classroom Teaching

Twenty-first century medical education demands that we build upon the best of how most of us were taught in the classroom and the clinic, and adopt the new methods of teaching and assessment that ensures our students walk across the graduation stage with defined and well-developed skills and professional attributes. The College of Medicine supports faculty in continual growth as educators through Learning and Teaching, administered by the Office of Medical Education. Questions, ideas and comments on our offerings are always welcome! Contact any of the individuals below, or email comlearn@fiu.edu.

MD Curriculum

To effectively contribute to student learning, every faculty member needs to understand what students have already learned as well as how they will build on material you plan to teach. To provide this all important perspective, this section offers an overview of the MD curriculum here at HWCOM to get you started, and resources for learning more.

Classroom Teaching

The majority of faculty working in medical education are doctors and research scientists who did not received formal training in education prior to becoming faculty. This section offers a variety of tools and other resources on course and session design, teaching and assessment – all to help you in your journey toward becoming a professional educator.

Clinic & Hospital Teaching

Every doctor knows that the most important learning for medical students happens with real patients. Therefore, faculty who work with our students in clinics, hospitals and offices play a critical role in the education of our students. This section offers tools and other resources to help you maximize student learning in the most efficient way possible.
