  • Bascom Palmer Eye Institute

    The University of Miami Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and the McKnight Vision Research Center offers a comprehensive research training program with mentored training experiences. Training is provided in the interdisciplinary areas of biomedical sciences, biomedical engineering, and clinical research. Both short and long-term opportunities are available for trainees at all levels.

  • LES Clinic Research Institute

    The Less Exposure Surgery (LES) Clinic Research Institute offers clinical and biomechanical research opportunities for Medical Students who have an interest in Orthopedics and Spine Surgery. Students will participate in clinical research studies from inception, data analysis, methodology and submission for publication. As part of the process, students will learn how to develop study protocols, and IRB proposals needed for study approval. Students will have additional opportunities to observe cutting edge surgical techniques with our team and visit our mechanical and biomechanical sites. All students are under the supervision of Kingsley R. Chin, MD, MBA, FAAOS, and his research team.

    About Kingsley R. Chin, MD, MBA, FAAOS

    Dr. Kingsley Chin has a strong track record in research and technology innovation for Less Exposure Surgery. He graduated from Harvard Medical School with Honors and did his orthopedic training also at Harvard and a spine fellowship with renown master surgeon Dr Henry H Bohlman in Cleveland. Dr. Chin was the Chief Spine Surgeon and Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Pennsylvania before founding the LES Clinic academic private practice in Florida. He is Professor of Clinical Orthopedics at Hebert Wertheim College of Medicine at FIU. He founded the LES Society and holds over 85 published peer reviewed research articles, published several textbooks, and lectured at over 200 education and training events worldwide.

  • Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute Baptist Health South Florida

    The Miami Orthopedics Sports Medicine Institute Research Department at Baptist Health South Florida offers volunteer opportunities for FIU medical students who have an interest in the field of medicine. Volunteers will be assigned to a clinical study and assist the research team in the process of data entry and data collection. Volunteers will also learn how to develop a protocol as well as how to complete all regulatory compliance paperwork needed for a study to be approved. Adding to the incomparable experience of volunteering at Baptist Health, volunteers will also have the opportunity to build relationships with our talented team of physicians. All volunteers will always be under the supervision of our Research Coordinators, Valerie M. Zaid and Silvia E. Balladares.

    *There is no minimum volunteer hours required

    The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Medical Research Scholars Program (MRSP) is a pre-doctoral training program, shaping the future of health by inspiring careers in biomedical research as clinician-scientists.

    Eligibility:

    For U.S. citizens and permanent residents currently enrolled in an accredited medical, dental, or veterinary program and in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year. Interested students should have strong interest in conducting basic, clinical, or translational research.
