Hitendra Chand has been appointed director of Research Support in the Office of Academic Affairs and director of the Ph.D. in Biomedical Science program at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.
Chand returns to FIU Medicine after serving two years as a health scientist administrator with the Immunology Review Branch of the Scientific Review Program at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He previously served as an associate professor and researcher at the college from 2016 to 2022.
As director of Research Support, Chand will lead efforts to advance the scholarly work of students, trainees, and faculty. He will connect them to key research resources, including mentors, library services, data analysis, and tools for disseminating their research.
He will also oversee the daily operations of the Ph.D. in Biomedical Science program through the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine.
His experience at the NIH will support the continued growth of the Ph.D. program, student research initiatives, and the college’s broader research portfolio.
