Dr. Maria Stevens has been officially named Assistant Dean for Academic Community Programs and Partnerships at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.
Having served as interim dean since last March, Dr. Stevens has shown enthusiasm and dedication in advancing our pathway and community programs.
Under her leadership, we are launching a new initiative this June, the Junior Doctors of Tomorrow. This program will offer a weeklong immersive experience in medical school to 30 middle and high school students from Miami-Dade and Broward public schools. The initiative complements our Doctors of Tomorrow program, tailored to pre-med college students.
Dr. Stevens joined the College of Medicine in 2017 and became Director of Clinical Skills a year later, quickly demonstrating a commitment to serving the underserved and shaping future doctors. Her dedication earned her an Excellence in Medical School Teaching award in 2020 and induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society this year.
Dr. Stevens is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, where she also completed her residency training in family medicine. She is an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Family Medicine Education Consortium.
