Barry P. Rosen, a distinguished university professor in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, has spent a lifetime studying heavy metal transport and detoxification. After five decades at the lab bench, Rosen plans to retire next year. In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, colleagues from FIU and around the world are gathering to honor him.
Rosen’s stellar and prolific career will be highlighted as part of the Festschrift Symposium hosted by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at FIU College of Arts, Sciences and Education, in collaboration with the College of Medicine.

Rosen is an international expert on arsenic. He has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation since 1972. Over his career, Rosen has produced nearly 400 research publications with over 34, 000 citations, earning him recognition as a Highly Ranked Scholar by Scholars GPS, placing him among the 0.05% of all scholars globally. His research has been featured on five scientific journal covers.
Rosen is proud to have trained 22 doctoral students, 55 postdoctoral associates and multiple visiting scholars, many of whom are participating in this symposium.
