We are proud to announce that Dr. Noël Barengo, associate professor at FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, has been awarded the Bernard Choi Award from America’s Network for Chronic Disease Surveillance (AMNET).

The award recognizes excellence in leadership and a commitment to advancing chronic disease surveillance throughout the Americas.

Dr. Barengo served as president of AMNET for two years (2020-2022) and currently holds the position of vice president. He is also the chair of the Membership Committee and previously served on the Research Committee. Additionally, he is the editor-in-chief of AMNET’s official journal, the American Journal of Non-Communicable Diseases.

“As a physician and public health professional, AMNET allows me to collaborate with experts across the Americas to reduce risk factors for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and promote healthier lifestyles in order to reduce NCDs in the region,” said Barengo. He also appreciates the opportunities for education and training of health professionals this international network provides.
