We are committed to training future doctors who are culturally competent and capable of caring for a wide range of patients because diversity and inclusion matter in health care. Studies show that students trained at diverse schools are more comfortable treating patients from different ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds. Patients report higher levels of trust and satisfaction and better health outcomes when they can identify with their doctor.
The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is the #1 Most Diverse Medical School among public universities according to the 2022 U.S. News & World Report.
Your support encourages all qualified students, regardless of their economic status, to pursue careers in medicine. You can help us celebrate merit, create opportunities, and improve health care.

On the first day of medical school, Philip Desamour got fantastic news. He'd been awarded the 2021 Dr. Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Family Foundation Scholarship. As a Wertheim Scholar, his four-year tuition is paid for.
He says not worrying about paying off a large debt allows him to approach medicine differently. It makes it easier to choose a specialty, like primary care, that doesn't pay as much as others.
Desamour is looking forward to practicing in South Florida. "I love it here. I love the diversity. I love the food. And I want to give back to the community that helped raise me."
Support one, touch thousands
The average doctor will treat thousands of patients in a lifetime. By supporting one student, you can touch thousands of lives.
With the nation facing a projected shortage of up to 139,000 physicians by 2034, we are encouraged that many of our graduates are committed to staying and practicing in South Florida.

As a student at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine,
Dr. Michele Benjamin benefitted from the financial support of several scholarships, and she wanted to pay it forward. Currently, an internal medicine resident at Miami's West Kendall Baptist Hospital, the 2020 graduate is the college's first alumni to establish an endowed scholarship for future medical students.
"Just knowing I had that support from other people, who were strangers to me, was inspiring," said Benjamin, who graduated debt-free thanks to several scholarships. Through our Pathway to Philanthropist program, she established the Dolores "Lynn" Parry Memorial Scholarship in honor of her late mother.
