Md. Sohanur Rahman, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral research associate in the laboratory of Professor Hoshang Unwalla. He is investigating the impact of the Transforming growth factor b (TGFb) signaling induced by HIV infection and cigarette smoke (CS) on Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) and lactoperoxidase (LPO) biogenesis and their functions.

- Determine the impacts of the HIV/smoke altered MicroRNAome in chronic bronchitis and Chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases
- Determine the mechanism by which cigarette smoking upregulates H2O2 that promotes the lung inflammations
- Develop the gene-specific microRNA antagonism using CRISPR-based editing of the miRNA target site on the gene of interest
