David R. Brown, M.D.

Dr. David Brown teaches medical students at all levels, primarily in the Community Engaged Physician courses. A nationally recognized leader in socially accountable medical education and community-engaged research, his leadership has been pivotal in the success of the award-winning Green Family Foundation Neighborhood Health Education Learning Program, which integrates social determinants of health into the curriculum and promotes interprofessional teamwork and community engagement.

As the principal investigator of the FIU Thrive mHealth app and research database, he develops personalized care plans and tackles complex social challenges.

Dr. Brown served as vice chair and interim chair of the former Department of Humanities, Health, and Society, and was the founding director of the West Kendall Baptist Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program, which is now the FIU/Baptist Health Family Medicine Residency. He has also contributed significantly to the Core EPA Pilot, NIH RADx-UP initiative, and the FIU Genomic Center, advancing innovative health care solutions and medical education.
