Carolyn D. Runowicz
Carolyn D. Runowicz, M.D., a leader in women’s health and gynecologic cancer, served as professor of obstetrics and gynecology and executive associate dean for Academic Affairs from 2011-2023.
Dr. Runowicz has authored over 200 scientific articles and five books. Her research has focused on clinical trials in gynecologic cancer and cancer prevention. She has earned numerous honors and awards, including the Distinguished Service Award from the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and the Hologic Endowed Women Who Conquer Cancer Mentorship Award from ASCO.
She has held leadership roles in major cancer organizations, including serving as the first woman president of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists and president of the American Cancer Society. In 2006, President George W. Bush appointed her to the National Cancer Advisory Board. She also served two terms as vice president of the Amerian Gynecological and Obstetrical Foundation Board.
She remains a dedicated mentor, inspiring the next generation of oncology clinicians, educators, and researchers.
Dr. Runowicz received her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, followed by an OB/GYN residency and fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Mt. Sinai Hospital.
