Sonia Odette Benitez, CPA

Sonia Benitez, CPA, has over 25 years of experience as a finance leader with expertise in building and leading the organizational growth of complex organizations. In her role as senior associate dean of finance and administration, she oversees the college of medicine’s budget process, financial planning, human resources, facilities planning, and information technology. Benitez joined FIU in 2012 as the chief operating officer for the Department of Health, Humanities, and Society, the college’s largest department. 

Before joining FIU, she had a successful and extensive career in the private sector, starting at Price Waterhouse. She went on to serve as vice president of finance for Visa International for Latin America and the Caribbean and chief financial officer and vice president of Our Kids of Miami-Dade/Monroe.

Benitez is a certified public accountant and two-time Panther--she received both her Bachelor of Accounting and a Master of Science in Taxation from FIU.
