Third-year medical student Danielle Olson has earned a prestigious year-long research fellowship at NYU Langone’s Orthopedic Trauma Department, where she will gain extensive experience in orthopedic surgery and academic medicine.
During the fellowship, Olson will attend clinical patient sessions, analyze data, and draft narratives of patient outcomes. She will work with orthopedic surgery residents at different hospitals, gaining hands-on experience in clinical and operating room settings and understanding the impact of patients’ demographic backgrounds on various orthopedic conditions.
Olson is working under the mentorship of Dr. Kenneth A. Egol, chief of the Division of Trauma and Fracture Surgery, and Dr. Sanjit R. Konda, director of geriatric orthopedic trauma and fracture surgery. “I am eager to learn from this distinguished team,” she says.
Beyond her professional growth, the fellowship allows Olson to live in New York City, which has been a long-time dream.
After completing her fellowship, Olson will return to the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine to finish her medical degree, with the goal of matching into an orthopedic surgery residency after graduation.
