Clinical Services

We offer comprehensive patient care for a wide range of conditions at Baptist Health South Florida hospitals and clinics. Our treatment services include:

Education & Training

Education in clinical neurology is a required part of training for medical students and neurology residents, while other neuroscience specialties are offered as electives.

The FIU/Baptist Health Neurology Residency prepares physicians to serve their communities while advancing the field through academic contributions. The curriculum builds a solid foundation in general neurology and subspecialties, complemented by training in research, quality improvement, and critical appraisal of scientific literature.

Research

Our department integrates basic and clinical research to address the most pressing neurological challenges. Current initiatives include:

  • A clinical trial investigating low-intensity focused ultrasound for Alzheimer’s disease, co-led by Dr. Michael W. McDermott and Dr. Patricia Junquera
  • Research on the biology of benign and malignant brain tumors, led by Dr. Jose Otero, a clinician scientist in neuropathology and bioinformatics

We are working to expand our research portfolio with the recruitment of additional clinician-scientists and basic scientists, supported by external funding and philanthropy.

Faculty & Staff

Our faculty and staff are dedicated to the education of future physicians in the identification and treatment of neurological diseases and disorders. We are committed to addressing the needs of our community through the implementation of innovative treatment methodologies.
