Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (FIU Medicine) faculty and staff members Tracey Weiler, Ph.D., and Lynnette Alonso-Capote, MBA, received inaugural FIU Excellence in Assessment Awards, presented by the Institution Effectiveness team under the Office of Academic Planning and Accountability.

Both Weiler and Alonso-Capote earned Best Practices – Methodology and Data-Informed Improvement Awards for their contributions to advancing program assessment and outcomes.

Weiler, professor and academic director of the Graduate Certificate in Molecular and Biomedical Sciences (GCMBS) at FIU Medicine, was recognized for advancing data-informed improvement within the program. Designed to reinforce foundational science concepts, GCMBS mirrors content covered in the first year of medical school and boosts students’ qualifications for acceptance into the M.D. or the Physician Assistant program at FIU Medicine.

Weiler works closely with her team to collect and utilize data to strengthen assessments, teaching and educational activities. Under her leadership, program goals and student outcomes guide daily operations, ensuring accreditation standards remain central to ongoing improvement.

Alonso-Capote was recognized for her work supporting the Physician Assistant program at FIU Medicine. As associate director of administrative services, she helps lead the accreditation process by preparing required reports and self-study materials. She also develops surveys and builds systems to support ongoing data collection and analysis. Alonso-Capote serves on the program’s accreditation committee and supports leadership in using data to guide program decisions.
