The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), nationally recognized as the accrediting authority for M.D. programs in the U.S. and Canada, has granted full reaccreditation to the M.D. program at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine for the maximum eight-year term, extending through the 2033–2034 academic year.
LCME accreditation is a key marker of a medical school’s credibility and its ability to train future physicians. This milestone underscores the LCME’s confidence in the strength, quality and excellence of FIU Medicine’s medical education program. It ensures that FIU medical students continue to receive an exceptional education, with access to financial aid, residency programs and licensing exams. It also signals to prospective students, faculty and partners that the college meets or exceeds national standards for educational excellence.
“This achievement belongs to the entire FIU Medicine community—our faculty, staff, students, alumni and clinical partners—who contributed their time and expertise throughout the accreditation process,” said Dean Juan C. Cendan. “I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together and look forward to building on this momentum as we continue to advance our mission in education, research, clinical care and community engagement.”
