Lorraine Nowakowski joined FIU HWCOM as a Clinical Specialist in 2011. Nowakowski’s primary responsibilities include developing, coordinating, and implementing Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP health care services, including the mobile van and telemedicine health services. She has extensive hospital and community practice nursing experience, and has been affiliated with many New York City hospitals where she worked in general medicine and surgery, as well as team coordination, administration, and research.
Throughout her career, Nowakowski has focused on community-based prevention and education initiatives, directing and coordinating health and wellness programs. She has promoted healthy eating initiatives and brought farmer’s markets to public and private schools and continues her work on developing partnerships with local schools. Prior to joining FIU HWCOM, Nowakowski was at FIU’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences, teaching in Community Nursing courses and supervising interprofessional student teams during NeighborhoodHELP household visits.
