Jerry Chipuk's research focuses on mitochondrial biology, regulated cell death and cancer biology. His work develops experimental tools and model systems to study how mitochondrial function contributes to disease and the development of new therapies, with a particular focus on melanoma and hematologic malignancies.

About the Lab
The Chipuk Lab investigates how mitochondria influence cancer development, progression and treatment response. Using biochemical, biophysical and cellular approaches, we study how changes in mitochondrial structure and function regulate metabolism, cell survival and apoptosis. Our research also examines how cancer-driving signaling pathways communicate with mitochondria to shape tumor behavior, therapeutic response and drug resistance.
In addition, we explore the role of mitochondrial networks in melanocyte biology and melanoma, seeking to better understand how healthy cells transform into cancer. By uncovering the mechanisms linking mitochondrial function and cancer, we aim to identify new insights that could lead to more effective therapies and improved patient outcomes.
