Jerry Chipuk's research focuses on mitochondrial biology, regulated cell death and cancer biology. His laboratory develops experimental tools and model systems to study how mitochondrial function contributes to disease and the development of new therapies, with a particular focus on melanoma and hematologic malignancies.
Before joining FIU in 2026, Chipuk was a tenured professor of oncological sciences and dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and associate director of the National Cancer Institute-designated Mount Sinai Tisch Cancer Center.
Chipuk has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, maintained National Institutes of Health funding and mentored dozens of trainees at multiple career stages. He has also established interdisciplinary collaborations that connect basic science discoveries with clinical and translational research.
