Florida International University Houseless Outreach for Medical Equity (FIU HOME), a student-led initiative at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, has received the FIU Outstanding Service Award—a university-wide recognition for leadership and community impact.

FIU HOME was recognized for its commitment to improving health care access for individuals experiencing homelessness in Miami-Dade County. Through direct street outreach, this initiative connects people to vital medical services and community resources while empowering them to take charge of their health.

Fourth-year medical students Nicole Moscoso and Rachel Siretskiy, two of the program’s co-founders, accepted the award at this year’s FIU Outstanding Student Life Awards ceremony. They were joined by third-year medical student Mikahla Gay, who serves as FIU HOME’s internal director and plays a key role in its ongoing efforts.
