Financial Aid Counseling

The HWCOM Office of Financial Assistance provides counseling for prospective and current students from preadmission to post-graduation. We offer appointments and maintain an open door policy.

Before Admission

The HWCOM Office of Financial Assistance advises on the financial aid application process, including the FAFSA, and advises on the process once a student is admitted (e.g., award letters, disbursement of funds). In our website we provide information where we advise on the FAFSA, the cost of attendance, budgeting, borrowing only what is needed, paying down credit card debt prior to enrollment, obtaining and reviewing a free credit report, and scholarship resources.

During Orientation Week

During Orientation, students are required to attend an HWCOM Office of Financial Assistance presentation; topics reviewed include budgeting, cost of attendance, creating a budget, and disbursement dates (emphasizing the length of time between refunds). Students also can meet individually with staff members of the Office of Financial Assistance at any time to discuss financial concerns and general questions.

During Academic Year

Students can meet with the HWCOM Office of Financial Assistance for individual entrance counseling appointments during the first semester of their chosen program. Students in addition attend presentations as part of the Debt Management Program. Students can also meet individually with staff members of the HWCOM Office of Financial aid at any time to discuss financial concerns and general questions.

Before Graduation

Students are given the option to complete an exit counseling session during their final semester at HWCOM. During this semester, students also can meet for individual exit counseling appointments to review loan history; to review general debt and repayment strategies, including loan consolidation, loan forgiveness, and deferment/forbearance options; and to address any additional financial concerns or questions before graduation.

After Graduation

Alumni students alike are welcome to contact us at any time post-graduation with any financial assistance question they may have. We are happy to assist our students in all stages of their career.
