Dr. Christopher Senkowski, program director of the FIU/Baptist Health General Surgery Residency Program and professor at Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, has been named to the board of directors of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery (APDS).

Founded in 1977, APDS works to uphold high standards in surgical education and patient care nationwide. The organization supports residency program directors and their teams in training the next generation of skilled, compassionate surgeons.

“To be asked to serve on the board of directors for the national organization that serves 347 surgical training programs is an honor,” said Senkowski, a board-certified general surgeon at Baptist Health with more than 25 years of experience training surgeons. “I hope to contribute to the continued excellence of surgical training across the U.S. and bring that expertise back to our own residency training program as we at FIU/Baptist Health look to train the future leaders in surgery.”

The APDS board organizes annual meetings, leads educational initiatives, and advises key organizations, including the American Board of Surgery, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the American College of Surgeons, on surgical training efforts.

Senkowski will serve a two-year term.
