Dr. Joseph McGinn Jr. oversees fellowship leadership, curriculum development, trainee evaluation and clinical supervision within the FIU/Baptist Health Thoracic Surgery Fellowship Program. He also serves as chief of cardiac surgery at Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute at Baptist Health South Florida.
A pioneer in minimally invasive cardiac surgery, McGinn developed the “McGinn Technique,” an alternative to traditional open-heart surgery, and has performed more than 1,500 procedures while training physicians worldwide. Before joining Baptist Health, he held leadership roles at Atrium Health, Staten Island University Hospital and The Heart Institute of New York. He is board certified in thoracic surgery, surgical critical care and general surgery.
