Training the Critical Care physicians of Tomorrow

The FIU/Baptist Health Critical Care Medicine Fellowship offers a rigorous, multidisciplinary training experience designed to prepare fellows for leadership roles in academic, community and resource-limited settings. Fellows develop advanced clinical judgment and procedural expertise while caring for critically ill patient populations across high-acuity intensive care units.

Training occurs within Baptist Health’s medical/surgical, cardiovascular and neurocritical care ICUs alongside experienced, board-certified intensivists in a patient- and family-centered environment. Through immersive bedside care, fellows gain proficiency in ventilator management, hemodynamic support, bronchoscopy and other essential critical care procedures, while benefiting from a structured curriculum that supports progressive clinical autonomy, interdisciplinary electives and personalized mentorship.

  • Baptist Hospital

Baptist Hospital of Miami, the flagship of Baptist Health with over 900 beds, is a nationally recognized destination for advanced cancer, heart, and neuroscience care, offering leading-edge technology, multidisciplinary expertise, and the distinction of being Florida’s first and only six-time Magnet® Hospital for Nursing Excellence.

Curriculum

The curriculum provides progressive, comprehensive training across the full spectrum of critical care medicine. Over two years, fellows rotate through high-acuity medical/surgical, cardiovascular and neurological ICUs, building expertise in the management of complex, critically ill patients while gaining increasing clinical autonomy.

Structured night float rotations and flexible electives—including anesthesiology, cardiology, nephrology, pulmonary medicine, trauma, ultrasound, and research or quality improvement—allow fellows to individualize their training and prepare for careers in critical care.
