Dr. Sudhagar Thangarasu has been appointed as the designated institutional official (DIO) and associate dean for Graduate Medical Education (GME) at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.
In these capacities, Dr. Thangarasu will lead all aspects of FIU’s GME programs, ensuring compliance with ACGME standards, managing accreditation processes, and supervising recruitment efforts for residency and fellowship programs. He will also play a vital role in bridging the undergraduate and graduate medical education experiences for our clinical trainees.
Dr. Thangarasu brings extensive GME experience to FIU. He joins us from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, where he served as assistant DIO and assistant dean for GME. In 2019, he became the founding program director for Texas Tech's Internal Medicine Residency Program, developed in partnership with a private, not-for-profit hospital system.
Dr. Thangarasu earned his medical degree from Stanley Medical College in India and completed his Categorical Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Mercy.
