Dr. Diego R. Torres-Russotto, director of the Neurology Residency Program at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and distinguished endowed chair in Neurology at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute, has been elected to the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) Council.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to help steer NBME's mission,” said Torres-Russotto.
NBME supports medical schools and the Federation of State Medical Boards in evaluating the readiness of medical students and physicians through standardized assessments, including the United States Medical Licensing Exam and Subject Exams in Health and Education Licensing Framework. The NBME Council provides expert advice and guidance on physician licensing and the development of standardized examinations, ensuring that the organization's assessments remain relevant, rigorous, and aligned with the evolving needs of medical education and public health.
Torres-Russotto previously taught and led educational programs at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he served as a professor, vice-chair for education, and chief of movement disorders in the Department of Neurological Sciences. His dedication to teaching earned him several honors, including the Distinguished Mentor Award, the Outstanding Teacher Award, and the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, which recognizes compassion in patient care and medical education.
