Dean Cendan inducted into the Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine of Florida

Dean Juan C. Cendan at Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine of Florida Annual Meeting.

Dean Juan C. Cendan was officially inducted into the Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine of Florida (ASEMFL) during the academy’s annual meeting in Orlando.

He was recognized for his leadership in medical education, academic innovation, and community impact—hallmarks of a career dedicated to advancing health care and education in Florida and beyond.

Under Cendan’s leadership, the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine has established major affiliations with Baptist Health South Florida and Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, expanding clinical training opportunities for students, addressing the physician shortage, and expanding medical research across the region.

For more than 15 years, Dean Cendan has also led pioneering research in virtual humans and simulation technology, innovations that have transformed how future physicians learn to diagnose and treat rare conditions. His work—supported by sustained NIH funding—has generated multiple patents and led to a startup later acquired by Elsevier, a global leader in scientific and medical publishing.

Cendan joins a distinguished group of ASEMFL members whose contributions to science, engineering, and medicine have advanced their fields locally, nationally, and internationally.
