FIU Medicine announces new faculty administrative positions

We are pleased to announce the following faculty administrative appointments:

Dr. Sarah Stumbar has been named interim associate dean for Student Affairs. In her previous roles, she served as assistant dean for Clinical Education and director of the Family Medicine Clerkship, teaching medical students at all levels. She has also provided primary care to underserved patients through the Green Family Foundation Neighborhood Health Education Learning Program (NeighboorhoodHELP). Dr. Stumbar is the 2024 recipient of the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award and the inaugural winner of Wertheim Medicine’s Hippocratic Award.

Dr. Gregory Schneider returns to Wertheim Medicine as interim associate dean of Faculty Development. Before moving out West two years ago, Dr. Schneider was deeply involved in the NeighborhoodHELP, where he cared for patients aboard the Mobile Health Centers and oversaw medical student household visits. In 2020, he received the Florida Academy of Family Physicians Full-Time Educator Award.

Dr. Shweta Akhouri has been appointed interim assistant dean of Clinical Education. Previously, she served as clerkship director of Family Medicine and has been involved in teaching medical students and residents. She has supervised NeighborhoodHELP household visits and provided care through the Mobile Health Centers and the FIU Health Faculty Group Practice.
