Ford Motor Company has named Dr. Ana Viamonte Ros, associate professor at Wertheim Medicine, as one of its Mujeres Legendarias: Women of Impact for 2024. The award honors Latinas across the U.S. who are driving community progress and inspiring positive change.
Dr. Viamonte Ros made history as Florida’s first state surgeon general and the first woman and Cuban American to serve as head of the Florida Department of Health from 2007 to 2011. At FIU, she served as associate dean for Women in Medicine and Science advocating for the recruitment of women faculty and medical students. She also served as the inaugural chief well-being officer and medical director for Palliative Care and Bioethics Services at Baptist Health South Florida.
As we celebrate Women in Medicine Month, Dr. Viamonte Ros underscores the vital role women play in advancing public health and promoting community well-being.
