Training the Physicians of Tomorrow

The Florida International University/Baptist Health Transitional Year Residency provides a training experience designed to prepare residents for successful transition into specialty residency programs. Residents gain broad clinical exposure through inpatient, ambulatory and critical care experiences, developing foundational skills in patient assessment, clinical decision-making and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Training occurs alongside experienced faculty and multidisciplinary teams at Baptist Hospital of Miami and South Miami Hospital, where residents care for patients within a patient- and family-centered environment. Through core rotations in internal medicine, family medicine, intensive care and ge, complemented by elective opportunities across multiple specialties, residents develop clinical competence while exploring areas aligned with their future career goals.

Supported by mentorship, structured feedback and an academically rigorous curriculum, the program promotes professional identity formation, scholarly engagement and lifelong learning.
