HWCOM medical students in the third period of medical study may apply to the Healthcare MBA program. Each college (HWCOM and College of Business Chapman Graduate School) independently reviews and admits applicants to its programs. Only students admitted to both programs are permitted to enroll in classes.
Through this combined degree program, students will earn their Healthcare MBA between their third and fourth academic years of medical school (total completion time: 9 months). Students will enhance their understanding of U.S. and international healthcare systems, expand their knowledge of healthcare operations and management, and sharpen their ability to make complex business decisions—critical skills for any practicing physician. Students will also broaden their opportunities to explore careers in pharmaceuticals, hospital administration, or physician practice management.
The deadline to submit an online application to begin in the fall term (August) is December 1 for all applicants.
To apply for admission to the combined MD and Professional MBA in Healthcare Management, medical students in the summer or fall of their third year (prior to December 1) must be in good academic standing and must receive approval from the Medical Student Evaluation and Promotion Committee, the HWCOM Office of Student Affairs, and the HWCOM Office of Academic Affairs.
To be eligible for admission to the MD/HCMBA program,
prospective students must provide:
• Approvals from HWCOM
• Two letters of recommendation
• Statement of purpose
