Dr. Makoto Hashimoto conducts cardiovascular research and provides highly specialized education to medical students and postgraduate trainees.

He is a cardiac surgeon at Baptist Health Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, specializing in robotic cardiac surgery and minimally invasive cardiac surgery, including coronary artery revascularization, and treating conditions such as valvular heart disease, cardiac arrhythmia, and adult congenital cardiac disease.

Dr. Hashimoto is particularly passionate about robotic cardiac surgery for its ability to provide advanced, safe treatment with faster healing and quicker recovery than traditional open-heart surgery.

Before joining FIU Medicine, he served as director of Cardiovascular Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the Minimally Invasive and Robotic Cardiac Surgery Center at Sapporo Heart Center in Japan.
