Dr. Ishit Chauhan’s research, conducted under the mentorship of Dr. David Kalfa, focuses on partial heart xenotransplantation and clinical outcomes in congenital cardiac surgery, with a strong emphasis on surgical innovation and clinical translation. Before joining FIU, he was a postdoctoral research scientist at the Columbia Center for Translational Immunology at Columbia University, where his work concentrated on xenotransplantation, mixed chimerism, and immune tolerance induction in large-animal models.
Chauhan completed two years of general surgery residency training at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and subsequently served as a junior cardiac surgeon in India.
