Alonso Navar Gutierrez, Ph.D.

Alonso N. Gutierrez supports education and training in medical physics contributing his clinical, research and leadership expertise to academic programs and professional development initiatives.

Gutierrez is chief of medical physics at Miami Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health South Florida. He leads the technical aspects of radiation oncology, ensures adherence to high-quality radiation care and safety standards, promotes educational and research activities, and supports community and outreach efforts. He has more than 10 years of experience in radiation oncology, with specialization in stereotactic radiotherapy delivery.

Prior to joining Baptist Health, Gutierrez served as an associate professor at UT Health San Antonio, where he helped establish multiple clinical and educational programs and served as program director for the Medical Dosimetry Program. Throughout his career, Gutierrez has trained medical physicists, radiation oncologists and medical dosimetrists.

He remains active in research and serves in leadership and advisory roles within professional radiation oncology organizations. Internationally, he has fostered collaborations with radiotherapy centers in Latin America and served as a training mentor for medical physics residents from Spain. He is committed to advancing excellence in radiation cancer care in the United States and abroad.
