Albert E. Dotson Sr. Premedical Program

The Dotson premedical program is for FIU undergraduate students interested in a medical career. This program is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attributes required to apply to medical school. Through community engagement and mentorship, the program caters to the specific needs of each student, fostering their personal and academic growth to help them achieve their full potential.

Program Highlights

The Dotson program offers a combination of online and in-person activities, including:

  • Ongoing mentorship from medical students, faculty, and physicians
  • Hands-on clinical workshops and simulations
  • One-on-one tutoring and group sessions on learning strategies and time management skills
  • MCAT preparation and stipend for study resources
  • Counseling on the admissions process and financial aid
  • Opportunities for research, clinical shadowing, community service

Who is eligible to apply?

  • Currently enrolled FIU undergraduate students
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident (proof of status is required)
  • Minimum completion of one semester of biology and chemistry
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Applicants who have faced significant personal, educational, or financial challenges are encouraged to apply. In your application, please describe how your background and experiences have shaped your educational journey.

Application Information

  • Applications are open from April 14, 2025 to June 30, 2025
  • 5-10 students are selected each year
  • Qualified applicants will receive an invitation to interview before final selection
