About us

Mammography saves lives. Breast cancer screenings can help detect breast cancer at an early stage when the chances of survival are highest. Unfortunately, research shows that minority women in South Florida seek preventative breast health care at lower rates than their non-minority counterparts.

The Mobile Mammography Initiative (MMI), formerly Mammography Art Initiative (MAI), was established at the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in 2011 to address this disparity by improving access to affordable breast health services and breast health education for uninsured women in Miami-Dade County.

Over the past 12 years, our annual student-organized art show has raised over $115,000 to sponsor mammograms and breast health education for thousands of women across South Florida who otherwise could not afford these services.

The MMI works with the College of Medicine’s Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP program to recruit patients for referral to our state-of-the-art Linda Fenner 3D Mobile Mammography Center, which offers free breast screenings.
