How to Apply

Applications for our ACGME-accredited internal medicine program will be accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Please search for, “FIU-VAHCS Primary Care Internal Medicine Program” to apply. For information on how to register, application fees, and more, visit the ERAS website. Current medical students can also obtain additional information at their medical school dean’s office.

For more information on eligibility, please see the following FIU GME policies:

FIU HWCOM Primary Care Internal Medicine Program applicants must upload three letters of recommendation, two from clinical preceptors.

Letters of recommendation from friends or relatives are not considered. In all cases, letters should be recent, from individuals who know the student well, and who can assess an applicant’s personal and/or clinical qualities. Letters must be written on official letterhead stationery and signed. Candidates are encouraged to submit all materials as soon as possible, as interviews are scheduled only if the application is complete.

  • Background checks and drug testing

    Level II Criminal Background Check

HWCOM requires a level II criminal background check. The results of the level II CBC are necessary before the applicant can begin his/her first year of training. This action was instituted in the interest of patient safety and to meet the credentialing requirements of our clinical partners.

Please refer to the Qualifications of Applicants Policy for more information.

  • Interviews

For the 2021-2022 Interview Cycle, all interviews will be conducted virtually.

The interviews are an important part of an applicant's virtual experience at FIU’s HWCOM. Applicants invited for a virtual interview will have the opportunity to meet and engage with the program's faculty. Prior to the virtual interview day experience, applicants will be invited to attend a FIU HWCOM-VAHCS Primary Care Internal Medicine Informational Session to learn more about our innovative curriculum, community engagement, commitment to diversity, resident life, and support.
