Benjamin Leon Center for Geriatric Research & Education

The Benjamin Leon Center for Geriatric Research and Education is committed to developing and implementing novel approaches to advance and promote active aging, frailty prevention, and health care delivery to older adults in primary clinical care and community settings through translational epidemiology research and geriatrics and gerontology education.

The Leon Center is housed in the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, under the leadership of Paulo Chaves, M.D., Ph.D., a geriatrician and clinical epidemiologist who holds the Leon Medical Center Endowed Scholar Chair in Geriatrics.

The Leon Center was established thanks to a generous gift from the Benjamin Leon Jr. Family and Leon Medical Centers, a leading healthcare services provider to Medicare and dual-eligible patients in South Florida. The gift is among the largest contributions ever made by a Cuban-American family to a U.S. University.

The Research Day on Aging and Health
