Dr. Anthony M. Gonzalez graduated from the University Of Miami School Of Medicine and went on to continue his surgical training at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital Medical Center where he was appointed Chief Resident. He is a board-certified general surgeon with an interest in general surgery, laparoscopic surgery, robotic and bariatric surgery. He has been involved in the care of bariatric patients since 1994.

Gonzalez is the Chief of Surgery for Baptist Hospital, and previously Vice Chief of Surgery since 2004. He also chairs and serves on various boards and steering committees at Baptist Hospital. He is the Chairman of the Medical-Surgical performance improvement collaborative at Baptist Hospital. Gonzalez also serves as the Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at South Miami Hospital. He is a member of multiple professional societies including the American Society of Bariatric Surgery.

His reputation has motivated surgeons from all of Central and South America to travel to South Florida to glean from his specialization in Bariatric and Laparoscopic Surgery.  When doctors are unable to travel from afar or when a multitude of physicians and surgeons must be reached, he televises his surgeries “live” to the society meetings.

Gonzalez serves as the medical director for The Living Hope Haiti Christian Mission. With this mission he visits Haiti two to three times a year to perform up eighty pro bono surgeries in a four day period. Gonzalez has also done similar work in Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
