Joining HWCOM in July 2020, Dr. Shweta Akhouri is passionate about undergraduate and graduate medical education—teaching medical students and residents. She teaches clinical skills, case-based, and problem-based learning and is the Assistant Clerkship Director of Family Medicine.

As faculty for Green Family Foundation Neighborhood Health Education Learning Program (NeighborhoodHELP), Akhouri supervises interprofessional household visits with medical, nursing, social work, and physician assistant students in underserved communities throughout Miami-Dade County. She sees NeighborhoodHELP patients in North Miami at one of the program’s Mobile Health Centers.

After completing her residency, Akhouri became a faculty member at the University of Louisville in the same residency program. She trained residents in inpatient and outpatient settings and served as Medical Director for their clinic. Akhouri also enjoys writing and using narrative medicine to reflect on her own experiences while empowering physicians and patients.
