Winston Elliott, Ph.D. is a postdoctoral associate within the Translational Glycobiology Institute at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University (FIU). He was born and raised in Miami, Florida and first gained interest in biomedical research volunteering at the Max Biedermann Institute at Mt. Sinai Hospital on Miami Beach. Dr. Elliott received his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities and his Master of Science in mechanical engineering from University of Colorado at Boulder. He subsequently earned Ph.D. degrees from both the University of Colorado and the University of Trento in mechanical and industrial engineering, respectively. Dr. Elliott continued his training as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital under Dr. Robert Sackstein. He is glad to return to Miami and join the FIU faculty, continuing his training under Dr. Sackstein. Dr. Elliott’s research interests have ranged across multiple fields in biomedicine, including orthopedic surgery, cardiovascular tissue engineering, mechanobiology, cardiovascular mechanics, and now translational glycobiology. His research currently focuses on optimization of adoptive cell therapies through increased expression of tissue homing receptors and ligands. Dr. Elliott is currently applying to this work towards pathology and treatment of promyelocytic leukemia.
