A native of Canada, Dr. Heidi von Harscher holds degrees in Clinical Psychology from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada (BA, Honours) and Carlos Albizu University in Miami, Florida (M.S. & Ph.D) with concentrations in Neuropsychology. She began her working as a Psychologist in 1990 in the SUNY system, in Buffalo, NY and is a Licensed Psychologist in New York and Florida. Over the years she has worked in private practice, Inpatient Psychiatric Hospitals and in University Centers. Her orientation to treatment is trans-theoretical although she was formally trained in Neuropsychology, Positive Psychology, Family Systems, and Dynamic Psychotherapy. She is strength-focused and holistic in her approach.

Her primary passion for the past 15 years has been as a Training Director. She developed and oversaw an APA accredited Doctoral Internship program which, to date, she has supervised and graduated 10 classes of Psychologists. She has consistently held faculty appointments with Universities such as Niagara University, Buffalo State, Nova Southeastern University, and FIU's College of Nursing and Allied Health, the Psychology Department, and the College of Education. She holds Certifications and Diplomates in Psychopharmacology, Severe Mental Illness and (Neuro)Biofeedback. Her publications and research interests include empathy, burnout, (neuro)psychological testing, stress, and personality. She also has interests in Complementary Medicine, Spirituality & Wellness. She is trained as an APA accreditation site visitor and has been active on various Boards and Organizations such as FAWE (Florida Association of Women in Education) and APPIC (Association of Psychology Post-Doctoral and Internship Centers).

Dr. von Harscher joined the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine on July 1, 2009 as the Director of Counseling and Wellness in the Office of Student Affairs and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health, Humanities and Society.

Dr. von Harscher is the faculty mentor for the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine American Medical Women's Association.
