Gonzalez-Arias joined the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine as professor and founding dean of the department of neurosurgery, which in December 2013 merged with the department of neurology to create the department of neuroscience. He also is the chairman of the Continuing Medical Education Program.
In addition to his academic career, Gonzalez-Arias, maintains a private medical practice as a neurosurgeon. He is chief of the Department of Neurosciences and Neurological Surgery at Baptist Hospital of Miami, a clinical affiliate of FIU/HWCOM, and serves as medical director of Baptist Hospital of Miami Neuroscience Center.
Dr. Gonzalez-Arias received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Zaragoza in Zaragoza, Spain. He completed his surgical internship at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago and neurosurgical residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital, University of Miami. He is board certified by The American Board of Neurological Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
