Dr. Cuellar came to the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine as the Chief of the Section of Rheumatology and is presently the Clerkship Director of Internal Medicine. She received her M.D. at the Javeriana University in Bogota, Colombia, in 1983. In Colombia, she completed her training in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. After moving to the U.S.A., she completed her Internal Medicine training and obtained her fellowship in Rheumatology at Louisiana State Health Science Center in New Orleans.
Upon completing her rheumatology fellowship, Dr. Cuellar joined the faculty at Tulane University School of Medicine, where she was involved in the teaching of medical students and residents and coordinated the Tulane Charity Rheumatology Clinic until 2005 when she moved to private practice until joining FIUCOM in 2008. Dr. Cuellar has special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of spondyloarthropathies and connective tissue disorders. In the past few years her interest has focused on the influence of lifestyle upon the symptoms and manifestation of various rheumatic disorders, she underwent training sponsored by Harvard University in Mind Body Medicine and Positive Psychology, and Food as Medicine sponsored by Georgetown and the University of Minnesota. She has implemented multidisciplinary groups to teach her patients skills in stress reduction techniques, and exercise and nutrition as complements to traditional medication for the treatment/prevention of some rheumatic disorders. Dr. Cuellar enjoys teaching and is committed to the implementation of a Competence-Based Internal Medicine Curriculum.
