Ms. Martinez has more than 25 years of financial management experience in the areas of strategic planning, financial analysis, and business development and planning. Having joined Florida International University in 2005, Ms. Martinez has held a number of positions including Associate Vice President of Strategic Development, Associate Vice President of Strategic Development and Financial Planning, and Associate Vice President of Business and Finance. In these roles she had progressive responsibility over FIU’s annual operating plan, capital budgeting, strategic planning, auxiliary and enterprise development and retail operations. Currently, she serves as the Executive Associate Dean of Finance and Administration for the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM).
In this role, she is responsible for the day-to-day- operations of HWCOM, financial and strategic planning, development and management of the annual operating plan, human resources management, institutional reporting and analysis, facilities management and collaboration with other schools and organizations on behalf of the HWCOM.
Ms. Martinez has played an integral role in HWCOM’s success since the college’s inception. During the college’s formative stage, she was a member of the team that produced the business plan that identified investment requirements and local economic development impact, a pivotal component of the school’s approval by the Board of Governors in March 2006. She also spearheaded the College of Medicine Implementation Team (COMIT), which created the base operating infrastructure necessary to receive preliminary accreditation in 2008.
Additionally, Ms. Martinez is currently the Treasurer of the FIU Research Foundation, and served as the initial chair and member of the FIU HWCOM Health Care Network Finance and Audit Committee.
Before joining FIU, Ms. Martinez served as Director of Finance for South American Restaurant Corporation, a multi-million dollar restaurant holding company in Puerto Rico. Prior to that, she was the Financial Planning Manager at Visa International Latin America & Caribbean, where she was responsible for the annual operating plans and the analysis of over 33 countries and led the implementation of the division’s management information systems. Ms. Martinez was also the Finance Manager for the Latin American Division of Atex, Inc., a subsidiary of Eastman Kodak Company, where she was responsible for its financial operations and undertook various projects including opening a wholly owned subsidiary in Brazil. She has also worked with Merrill Lynch and Acer International.
Ms. Martinez holds a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University in Management Information Systems with a minor in Business Administration. She received a Master’s of Science degree in Finance from Florida International University where she earned the outstanding graduate award. She has also held a Certified Financial Planner license since 1999.
